Maylands Business Centre
The Maylands Businesses Centre was officially opened on the 12th June 2011 by the Right Honourable Eric Pickles.
This incubator centre provides offices and light industrial units to start up businesses and also businesses looking to move into their first commercial premises. The aim for the centre is to nurture and assist these businesses to grow and develop to a stage where they are ready to move into private commercial properties within three years. A high level of business support and advice is on hand to assist the businesses in achieving this, and not only is this service available to business located in the centre, but also businesses across the Dacorum area. In these challenging times, it has been commercial private sector companies that have come forward in order to provide this support service, and they will be working alongside public sector organisations to ensure as many aspects of advice is covered as possible. “At the Maylands Business Centre, we aim to provide local businesses with a diverse and full range of business support functions, covering a broad array of issues.
We have been working with partners from both the private and public sector to put together a programme which will provide businesses, regardless of size, sector or the amount of time they have been trading, including start-up businesses with support and advice across all topics important and helpful to businesses.
The Business Advice Line
The Business Advise Line is a not for profit organisation, committed to providing advice to businesses across various areas including start-up, financial including cost savings and funding, Directors obligations, business turnaround/Insolvency through to creditor representation and debt recovery.
The Business Advice Line has committed to hold surgeries at the Maylands Business Centre initially once a week which can be amended according to demand. When this organisation does not have a presence at the centre, there will be a dedicated free phone which goes directly through to their offices for an initial conversation and appointment booking as required

Job Centre Plus
From September 2011, the JCP have committed one to one surgeries at the centre on a fortnightly basis, however will be available for ad hic visits before this time. The information and assistance they will be providing will predominantly be around enterprise support for business start-ups and will be focusing on those that are currently out of employment but looking to open their own business. Through the JCP entrepreneurs will potentially be able to apply for enterprise allowance which could assist with business start-up costs and independent business mentoring.

Michael MaCartney Management Services
Highly experienced and multilingual, Michael Macartney, owns his own commercial business management consultancy, and has decided that he would like to offer his knowledge and experience to assist local businesses via the Maylands Business Centre.
Michael has agreed to have a presence at the centre by offering one to one sessions, as well as courses and seminars, initially on a booked appointment, ad hoc basis which can adjust according to demand, starting at the end of June 2011. Michael’s areas of expertise which he will be able to offer support on are sales and marketing both UK and export, business management and company structure
Business Link East
Business Link are able to offer ‘business as usual’ until the end of November 2011 and as such have committed to hold two monthly surgeries for existing businesses at the centre, the first one being on the 17th July 2011, and they will also be running training courses for existing businesses facilitated at the centre covering specific topics (to be confirmed).
Business Link will also be continuing start-up businesses during this time – this will be offered through appointments with a business start-up advisor and also business start-up workshops over the coming months. Business Link will also be installing a business support interactive pack in the centre which will enable users to communicate with on-line advisors at anytime (subject to availability)
Cobham Consulting
Caroline Jones, owner of Cobham Consulting, a local recruitment agency, has committed to providing a range of employment support to local businesses from the Maylands Business Centre. Caroline would like to have a presence at the centre offering individual appointments and group training covering topics including – assessing CVs, short listing skills, interviewing skills, legislation requirements and employment law.
Caroline would aim to hold the one to one sessions once every two weeks and will hold courses according to demand.

Rosemary Books
From August 2011 commercial bookkeeping company, Rosemary Bookkeeping, have committed to have a presence at the Maylands Business Centre offering bookkeeping advice and support in the style of one to one surgeries.
From September/October 2011 Rosemary Books would also look to hold ‘Discovery Days’ at the centre, enabling people who would like to run their own business but not sure how or nervous about going it alone to look at the possibility of starting their own Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise.

Lorica
Local commercial insurance company, Lorica, have expressed interest in providing advice to local businesses focusing on all of the different aspects of insurance including ensuring the companies are covered for all eventualities. Lorica have also stated that they would be happy to advice on risk assessments for businesses.

Hemel Hempstead Churches Together
Graham Richardson, member of HHCC, is already a Chaplin for local Town Centre Business as well as the local police. Graham would like extend his support to the local business community by having a presence at the Maylands Business Centre.
We have a wide range of business support as outlined above, but Graham will be available to offer more personal support which can be really useful especially when you are embarking on new business start-up plans.

Although the centre has only been open a short time, it has already proved to be a great success!! There are only 2 offices left along with a small number of industrial units of various sizes – if you are looking for space for your business, please get in touch.
Also on site is an operational café area where you can get a range of refreshments as well as having an ion site facility for meeting/conference catering. There is also an electric car charging point which has recently been installed on site and is available for use through booking, for anyone with an electric operated vehicle.
The centre is located on the Redbourne Road opposite the Adventure Playground and between Cupid Green Depot and the Co-op Garage. There is always someone on site that will be able to help with any queries you may have, and the facilities are also available for meeting/conference hire.
